Learn to Draw!

You don’t need to be an artist to learn how to draw and use drawing to enhance the way you learn, communicate, and think!

Drawing, visual facilitation tools, and visualising information can be especially helpful when...

  • teach, coach, or train people
  • facilitate groups, meetings, or workshops
  • come up with ideas or work creatively
  • study or simply want to take better notes
  • plan ahead, work on strategy, or keep track of your goals
  • work in sales, marketing, planning, or communication

Learn from the Podcast!

Podcast of a Graphic Recorder

The Piirtämisen voima - podcast is the first podcast in finnish language focusing on the benefits of drawing, exploring different ways drawing and art appear in the everyday life and work of experts across various fields. Hosted by long-time entrepreneur, visual facilitator, and kuvakiteyttäjä® Salla Lehtipuu. Episodes are video podcasts, and a visual summary is drawn for each episode.

The Piirtämisen voima podcast aims to inspire a broader understanding of drawing—its benefits, applications, and techniques—and encourage more people to pick up a pen and start drawing!

The podcast is hosted by Salla Lehtipuu, a seasoned entrepreneur, visual facilitator, and kuvakiteyttäjä®. Each episode is available as a video podcast and is also distilled into a visual crystallization.

My Story

Why Teaching Drawing Is Important to Me

At school, I was the student whose books were filled with drawings in the margins. My teachers occasionally complained about my doodling. The sound of pencils moving across the page might have distracted them, but for me, drawing was a way to concentrate.

It was only when I discovered visual facilitation that I understood what a valuable resource I had been leaving underused. I could have turned my natural tendency to draw into a learning tool — using visual notes to support my understanding and memory — and perhaps achieved better results at school. Drawing was mainly associated with art lessons; elsewhere, it was often considered a distraction rather than a tool for enhancing learning. Research tells a different story: drawing can have a meaningful impact on learning.

Drawing supports both learning and thinking, and this is a message I want to share. What if we gave children and adults better opportunities to learn in ways that suit them — with tools that help them learn, remember, and think more effectively?

Learning engages many of our senses! Our sense of sight allows us to process important information quickly. Using our hands helps us focus. When we listen, we respond not only to what is being said, but also to tone of voice and other nuances. Drawing and visual note-taking engage these different ways of learning and can support learning in powerful ways!
