Salla Lehtipuu
Who Is She?
Hi, I’m Salla Lehtipuu, Finland’s only kuvakiteyttäjä®. I’m also an illustrator, visual facilitator, and trainer.
My mission is to enable better learning through visuals. My tools for doing this include live illustration, visual facilitation created as drawing videos and illustrations, and training in visual note-taking.
I Love My Work as a Visual Note-Taker
See How Live Illustration Works...
Through my work, I’ve had the opportunity to meet smart, wonderful people and explore fascinating topics. I’ve created visual facilitations on all kinds of subjects, including eldercare, medicine, the forest industry, futures research, and marketing. I get to hear about amazing projects and services, but I also encounter challenges — and get to explore solutions together with people and help visualise the path forward.
My work feels meaningful when I get to make people’s words visible, through both words and images. It can create a shared understanding — or spark a conversation: “Is this how you see it?”
I get to draw, and I can see myself improving all the time. As a child, I dreamed of making a living by drawing, but I could never have imagined that a profession like this would even exist. I’ve always had many other interests too, and I still have plenty of moments when I question my skills. Yet drawing gives me a wonderful sense of achievement — when I manage to make something look on paper the way I see it in my mind, when I find a fun way to visualise an abstract idea, or when I can use my skills to bring joy to others.
I also get to teach others visual expression and thinking through drawing. It’s incredibly rewarding to see people rediscover a skill they had forgotten they possessed, and then start using it in their work and everyday lives.
I’m naturally curious, which makes this work a great fit for me. I get to peek into all kinds of different worlds! I love being surrounded by activity, and I enjoy events and meeting new people.
